Makematic Partners with National Constitution Center for New Series Ahead of America's 250th

The videos are featured in the National Constitution Center’s new interactive digital resources, the Interactive Declaration of Independence and the America at 250 Civic Toolkit

Award-winning digital production company, Makematic, and America’s leading platform for nonpartisan constitutional education, the National Constitution Center, today announced new animated videos featuring leading constitutional experts and scholars to bring the nation’s founding documents to life for the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026 and beyond.

“Makematic was founded on the belief that complex ideas deserve to be told in ways that inspire curiosity and conversation. Working with the National Constitution Center – especially as the country prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary – and we are proud to bring these stories of courage and conviction to life for a new generation of learners,” said Mark Nagurski, the co-founder of Makematic.

The suite of videos includes biographies uncovering the people behind the signatures, exploring the lives of all 89 signers of the Declaration and the Constitution, as well as two who refused to sign. With scripts written by historian Carol Berkin, and illustrated with archival material, documents, motion graphics and animation, these films tell the stories of forgotten heroes alongside familiar names, individuals who risked everything for our new nation.

“It has been a privilege to produce films that honor the founding principles of American democracy as we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States. Working with the National Constitution Center, we’ve brought complex ideas to life through animation and archival storytelling, making the story of the nation accessible and engaging for all learners,” said Becky Jones, Executive Producer at Makematic.

In an accompanying series of landmark video essays, leading scholars, including Danielle Allen, David Armitage, Mary Sarah Bilder, Lindsay Chervinsky, Robby George, Jane Kamensky, Yuval Levin, Judge Jeffrey Sutton, Gordon Wood, Rosemarie Zagarri and National Constitution Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rosen, unpack the thinking behind the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. These scholars offer differing perspectives on the constitutional debates that continue to play out in American life, and explore the precise words that define us, the ideas that shape us, and the principles that unite us.

“The Constitution and the Declaration are the foundation of and continue to shape our constitutional democracy. In an era defined by rapid information and digital media, video is a powerful tool for engaging with constitutional history, providing learners not only the chance to study these founding texts, but also to wrestle with the enduring debates and ideas that animate civic life today,” said Julie Silverbrook, Vice President of Civic Education at the National Constitution Center. “By reaching thousands of educators, students, families, and lifelong learners nationwide, these videos will spark meaningful conversation, deepen understanding, and inspire renewed curiosity about the principles at the heart of our constitutional democracy. We thank Makematic for their partnership in investing their time and expertise in creating these important resources with us.”
