Ferguson Flight Class for BBC NI
Makematic joined up with BBC NI as part of The Great Flying Challenge to take you through a journey into flight and 3D model creation in this mini masterclass. The mini masterclass is made up of 20 videos - covering the science of flight, designing and building a 3D model plane and exporting this model for gaming, animation and 3D printing.
Harry Ferguson was awesome, so awesome the BBC have made a whole TV series about his amazing adventures called the Great Flying Challenge and they asked us at Makematic to be a part of it - yay! Harry Ferguson, dubbed the 'mad mechanic' in his youth was from County Down and was the inventor of the worlds most famous tractor and Formula 1 four-wheel-drive and was the first person in the UK and Ireland to build and fly his own plane!
The programme ‘The Great Flying Challenge’ challenges local engineers and craftsmen to replicate the same plane Harry built and flew way back in 1910. To go alongside the BBC programme we designed our own challenge perfect for children 7yrs+ to get involved and build your own plane!
We are challenging you to build a 3D model plane using Tinkercad. Tinkercad is a fantastic website where anyone can go and build all sorts of 3D models. Once the 3D model plane is made we have loads of cool options for what to do with the plane - you could 3D print it, you could use it in a game or even in an animation! Not only did we make incredibly easy to follow video instructions, but we also sorted out teachers with an educational pack so they can bring it straight into their classes!
