Following the success of our earlier films for the American Philosophical Society, we were commissioned to produce a new series exploring the lives and impact of lesser-known scientists and physicians active during the Revolutionary era. This project was developed as part of a larger set of initiatives supported by the Richard Lounsbery Foundation to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

This series introduces a fresh visual identity, blending beautifully crafted animation with rarely seen archival imagery. Working closely with the APS’s Center for the History of Science, we helped shape topics and scripts to make complex science clear, engaging, and accessible for Middle School students. The result: six films that bring to life the achievements of early American science.

From James Madison’s meticulous weather diaries and Catharine Haines’ careful curation of medical remedies, to David Rittenhouse’s groundbreaking observation of the 1769 Transit of Venus, each film is rich with vivid imagery and original documentation drawn from the remarkable archives of the American Philosophical Society, an institution founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1743.
