Explaining media literacy with CCE
Eight videos explaining basic concepts of media literacy to students in US grades 4–8
The Center for Civic Education - a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization - published a request for proposals, inviting production companies to pitch for an ambitious series of eight animated videos. The series aimed to explain basic concepts of media literacy to students in US grades 4–8.
Topics ranged from Does a free press support democracy? to Do I have a role in media literacy?
Having previously produced the series The Constitution EXPLAINED, for CCE in collaboration with iCivics, we were confident that we could create a visually compelling series that delivered these important messages to their young audience.
Throughout the development process, we kept contemporary animation styles and techniques in mind, ensuring this series would resonate with the digital-native target audience. Our pitch materials were detailed, accurate, and visually appealing, illustrating our capacity to meet the client's requirements and creative approach.
On commission, we met with the CCE team to listen to their aspirations for the series, learning more about their intended use which further informed series development.
Our Education team worked closely with Production to ensure the script content was factually accurate and communicated the key messaging at a level our audience could relate to.
In tandem, our Animation department developed and produced a Style Guide which adhered to the CCE Brand Guidelines whilst creating contemporary style that would work online and on Social Media.
Through regular meetings with our client and a scheduled review process, we refined and honed each episode to meet their requirements.
On delivery of the 8-episode series, CCE commented:
"Thanks so much to you and your team for your excellent work on these videos. We are very pleased with the result."
