BBC Teach

Makematic were contacted by BBC Teach, home to all of the BBC’s teacher-facing content, and invited to pitch for a new series of 9 animated explainer videos on science for KS2. Aimed at children aged 7-11 and their educators, the topics ranged from How shadows work to How to use scientific equipment.

During the development process, the Makematic Production, Education, and Animation departments worked closely to devise an educationally robust approach to learning design and scripting which would be complimented by a visually engaging character animation style.

Once commissioned, we worked closely with the team at BBC Education to ensure our content adhered to their standards in terms of both style and content. We also conducted user testing with children in the target age group to gather their feedback on both style and level, ensuring our message met their needs.

Throughout the production process we balanced the need for factual accuracy with entertaining and engaging animation and, as a result, produced 9 stunning episodes that sit happily on the BBC Teach and Bitesize sites.
