If you noticed someone being harassed or isolated in your community because others perceived them as different, would you walk on by or do something about it?
Are You A Bystander Or An Upstander? is written and produced by Lee Henry, animated by Barbara Cipollone, with sound design by Fiachra O’Longain. Watch the video below.
The two-minute animation is narrated by Golden Globe-winning actor Tony Shalhoub, perhaps best known for his performance as detective Adrian Monk in the US television series Monk.
It tells the story of German industrialist Oskar Schindler, who famously resisted the Nazi regime by employing hundreds of unskilled Jewish workers in his enamelware and munitions factories, thereby saving the lives of 1,200 men, women and children.
“We’re so proud to have worked on this important film, which will be used as an educational resource in schools across America,” said MakeMatic CEO Mark Nagurski.
“It begins and ends with a call to action that’s intended to get young people thinking about what they would do in a similar situation. As we say in the video, ‘Challenging prejudice is not always easy but it’s always the right thing to do’.”
Journeys In Film is non-profit organisation that partners with the USC Rossier School of Education to “harness the power of film and media to educate the most visually literate generation in history”.
